Paying in instalments: how does the payment schedule work?

Updated on 31/07/2026

You have chosen to pay for your booking in instalments, or are you wondering about an upcoming deadline? Here is how your payment schedule works and what to do if you encounter any difficulty paying on time.

How does paying in instalments work?

When your booking is eligible (made sufficiently in advance of your arrival date), Roomlala offers you the option to pay in instalments when confirming your booking. Your payment is then split into several instalments:

  • The booking commission and an initial deposit on the rent, paid immediately to confirm the booking
  • Depending on the case, one or more intermediate instalments
  • The balance (remaining rent, any additional charges and tourist tax), to be paid before your arrival

Each instalment has an amount and a payment deadline. You can check them at any time from your booking by clicking on "Modify/view schedule": the "Your payment schedule" section displays each instalment with its status, amount, and deadline ("Before the ...").

Good to know: instalments are not taken automatically. You pay each instalment by credit card by clicking "Pay" from your schedule.

Can an instalment date be shifted or postponed?

No. The due dates are fixed by the cancellation policy of the listing you have booked: they guarantee your booking with your host. Therefore, they cannot be shifted or postponed by you, your host, or Roomlala.

However, you can pay an instalment in advance, at any time before its deadline. If you anticipate a difficulty (travel, banking delays...), this is the best thing to do: do not wait until the last day.

What happens if an instalment is not paid on time?

No nasty surprises: we will notify you by email, SMS, and notification 7 days and 3 days before each instalment, and a final time on the deadline date.

If the instalment remains unpaid despite these reminders, your booking is automatically cancelled. Any amounts already paid will be refunded according to the listing's cancellation policy. To avoid this happening, pay your instalment as soon as possible, without waiting for the deadline.

A problem with your bank or your card?

Don't panic, here are the right things to do:

  • Pay your instalment now, without waiting for the deadline: this will give you time to find a solution in case of a refusal
  • Try another credit card: each instalment can be paid with the card of your choice
  • Contact your bank to check your card's payment limit and, if necessary, request a temporary increase

If the payment fails even though your card works, you can contact our team indicating the relevant booking: we will check what is blocking it. However, please bear in mind that a banking issue does not allow for a payment deadline to be shifted: in the event of a refusal from your bank, payment with another card remains the fastest solution.
