What happens if I depart early?

Has your situation changed and you need to leave the accommodation before your planned move-out date? Don't panic. On Roomlala, moving out early is perfectly possible, and the process is straightforward. Here is what happens in practice and how to go about it.

Who can shorten the rental duration

Moving out early applies to long-term rentals, where rent is paid each month online via the payment schedule. It is the tenant who can shorten the duration of their stay, directly from their personal dashboard.

As for the host, they cannot shorten the rental from their end: they can only extend it. If you are a host and your tenant wishes to leave earlier, ask them to make the change from their own dashboard.

How to shorten your rental

If you are a tenant and you wish to bring forward your departure date, follow these steps:

  • Log in to your Roomlala account and open your rental's payment schedule.
  • Click on the "Shorten duration" button.
  • Indicate the new end date for your rental, then click "Modify".

What happens once the duration is shortened

As soon as you confirm the change:

  • Rent payments already made remain due and are not refunded.
  • Rent payments for the months following your new departure date are cancelled: you will not have to pay anything further for that period.
  • Your payment schedule is updated automatically with the new end date.
  • Your host is notified of the change by email.

If your new departure date falls in the middle of a month, the payment schedule is adjusted so that you only pay for the period actually occupied.
