How does a booking work? (for tenants)

Updated on 20/04/2026

Spotted a rental you like on Roomlala and wondering how to book it? No worries, we'll guide you through every step, from your first contact with the host to your arrival at the property.

1. Find the right rental for you

Start by searching on Roomlala, indicating your destination and dates. Take your time to browse several listings: description, photos, amenities, rental conditions, and reviews left by previous guests. The more informed your choice, the smoother your stay will be.

2. Send an enquiry to the host

On the listing page, click the button "Contact [owner's first name]". You'll then access an "Information Request" form where you'll specify:

  • Your arrival and departure dates
  • The number of guests
  • An introductory message for the host

Craft your message carefully: briefly introduce yourself, explain the reason for your stay, and ask any questions you may have. A clear and friendly message significantly increases your chances of getting a positive response.

3. Chat with the host

Your enquiry is sent to the host, who can reply, ask you questions, pre-approve your request, or decline it. You'll receive an email notification for each reply and can track all your conversations in the My Bookings section of your account.

As long as you haven't paid, you're not committed to anything: this is purely an exchange stage to get acquainted and confirm that the rental suits you.

4. Confirm the booking by paying

Depending on the listing, two scenarios are possible:

  • The host has pre-approved your request: you're invited to pay to confirm the booking.
  • The listing is set for instant booking: you can pay directly without waiting for the host's approval.

Payment is made securely online by credit card. The amount depends on the type of rental:

  • For a short-term stay: the entire stay is paid at the time of booking.
  • For a long-term rental: you pay the first month and, if applicable, the bond. Subsequent months are paid according to the established payment schedule.

Roomlala service fees are added at the time of payment and are clearly shown in the summary before confirmation.

5. Receive confirmation of your stay

Once payment is made and the host has confirmed, your booking is validated. You'll receive a summary email with all useful information: dates, rental address, and host's contact details.

We recommend you communicate again with your host a few days before your arrival to agree on the time and practical arrangements (key handover, access code, etc.).

6. Arrival and property inspection

On the day, head to the property at the time agreed with the host. Take the time to inspect the rental together and report any issues immediately. An entry condition report can be completed directly from your Roomlala space and electronically signed by both parties. An exit condition report will be completed in the same way at the end of your stay.

7. After your stay: leave a review

At the end of your stay, you're invited to leave a review for your host and the rental. Take a moment to do so: your feedback helps future guests make their choice and allows hosts to improve their hospitality.
